Holiday spotlight: Kwanzaa
December 23rd, 2022
There are so many holidays to celebrate this time of year. Kwanzaa is definitely a popular one celebrated all over the world. It began in the 1960s and is modeled after African harvest festivals. It takes place between December 26 – January 1. During this week, African American culture, community, connection, and harvest are celebrated in lots of festive and meaningful ways. A candle is lit for each day of Kwanzaa. This holiday celebrates 7 concepts: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith. Kwanzaa is also celebrated alongside Christmas and Hanukkah. Like every other holiday, great food is also at the top of the list. Kwanzaa-inspired recipes from Delish and the Food Network sound pretty yummy! On behalf of everyone at NoHo Senior Arts Colony, have a happy and safe Kwanzaa!
